The following is a link recognizing our student's success in the 2020 Michigan Governor's High School Cyber Challenge: https://www.michigan.gov/dtmb/0,5552,7-358-82543-541857--,00.html. Students in the cybersecurity program continue to represent PCEP well and earn themselves some hardware in the process with Cyber Challenge finishes of 6th place in 2018, 2nd place in 2019, and 3rd & 4th place finishes in 2020! Additionally, cybersecurity students received a trophy over the summer for their 3rd place finish in the 2020 CyberPatriot Competition! Below is a photo of the trophies that the students have earned! (perhaps one day we will actually be able to get a picture with the students in it!)

This opportunity is aimed at AP Computer Science students. In case you were unaware and would benefit from this program, there is a possibility to obtain a free computer for AP Computer Science students. I'm posting this for all of my students in case I have some Cybersecurity students who may have another AP Computer Science course or have friends that might be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
If you are a student needs a laptop for the AP exam, you can now register for a free laptop (shipped directly to your house). You can use it for the AP exam and keep it afterwards - it's your laptop to inspire ongoing learning.
Here is the link to the form that needs to be filled out: https://collegeboard.tfaforms.net/74
This gift to students is made possible through a generous donation from Amazon Future Engineer for students who need laptops at home (and where the school or district isn't providing them). We are working with Amazon and the College Board to help ensure students who need laptops can finish their course and take the exam this year.

4/13/20 UPDATE: PLEASE READ
Q3 grades are final no longer - this is a change to previous communication. Any missing work that was assigned on or prior to March 13th can now be accepted until May 8th.
Work on the calendar since the school closure can be counted for a Q4 grade that will help boost your overall S2 grade. It is expected that the district will make Q4 work required for a grade beginning next week (4/20), however at the time of this post there has not yet been a formal communication stating this as a fact. Continue to monitor the situation over the next week for further updates. It is also expected that students will have a Credit/No Credit option for S2, but this will be formally communicated in the very near future.
The bottom line is the more work and learning you do during this time, the better prepared you will be for your future and the better your grade will be at the end of the school year.
For additional information about the class and AP/certification exams please continue to read my mass emails that will go out on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays following my 8am to 9am office hours.

PCEP Cyber Patriot Team (Stealth Karma Enchiladas) Wins 3rd Place Award in State
A team of students from Plymouth-Canton Educational Park in Canton, MI recently concluded an exceptional round of competition in the twelfth season of CyberPatriot – the Air Force Association’s National Youth Cyber Defense Competition.
Established by AFA in 2009, CyberPatriot is designed to educate and motivate students toward careers in cybersecurity and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future.
CyberPatriot’s core program – the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition – challenges teams of students across the United States, Canada, and other schools abroad, to find and resolve cybersecurity vulnerabilities in simulated environments. Top teams from the online rounds earn an all-expenses-paid trip to Rockville, Md., for the in-person National Finals Competition, where students compete for national recognition and scholarships.
From 6,760 teams registered for the competition season, the CyberPatriot field is divided into three divisions – the Open Division for public, private, and home school teams; the All Service Division for JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, and Naval Sea Cadet Corps teams; and the Middle School Division for middle school-aged students. Based on the results of two preliminary rounds, CyberPatriot XII high school teams were categorized within their divisions as Platinum, Gold, or Silver Tier teams, with Platinum Tier teams representing the highest scoring teams.
The team of students from PCEP excelled in the CyberPatriot XII State Round held in December, demonstrating teamwork, critical thinking, and technical skills needed for a successful career in cybersecurity. The team’s performance earned it Michigan’s 3rd Place Award in the Platinum Tier and a spot in the Semifinal Round held this month.
“This is our third year since restarting the Cyber Patriot program here at PCEP. We’ve been lucky to have a great mentor in Mr. James Ratzlaff, so our program got off to a great start and our teams have shown improvement each year. The students and James have put in a lot of time and effort so I’m happy to see this recognition of their accomplishments.” said Coach Scott Obsniuk.
Following the Semifinal Round, top teams in the Open and All Service Divisions’ Platinum Tier and the top three Middle School Division teams will advance to the CyberPatriot XII National Finals Competition in Rockville, Md., in March.
